I remember the first time a creator asked us, "So, what about my DMs?" We were in an early beta, showing off an updated profile interface, and this particular creator, who’d built a really engaged online community, just looked at us with a raised eyebrow. My co-founder and I exchanged a quick glance. We’d talked about DM access a lot internally, going back and forth on the privacy implications. We knew we wanted to build something powerful for creators, but we also knew that trust was paramount. This was about their livelihood, their connections, their digital home.
That interaction, and many like it, solidified a core principle for us early on: we would never ask for access to your direct messages. Ever. Your DMs are your private space. They're where you connect with friends, family, and sometimes even forge deeper relationships with your audience. They're not for public display, they're not for data analysis, and frankly, they’re not relevant to what we’re trying to help you do, which is showcase your brilliant work and measure your brand collaborations effectively.
Building a robust public profile, one that truly reflects the value you bring to brands, doesn't require us to peek into your private conversations. Instead, we focus on what really matters in a brand collaboration: the public-facing content, your audience demographics, your engagement metrics, and your past performance. We’re interested in the measurable impact you create, not the intimate exchanges you have.
Think about it this way: when a brand is considering working with you, they're looking for proof points. They want to see your reach, your audience's authenticity, and how well your content resonates. They want to understand your niche and whether it aligns with their target market. None of that information lives in your DMs. It lives in your public posts, your follower count, your likes, comments, shares, and the demographic data that platforms already make available in varying degrees (and that we help you centralize and interpret).
So, what does this look like in practice when you’re building out your Amplifyr profile?
Firstly, it means you connect your social accounts through the standard, secure API channels provided by each platform. When you do this, you’re granting specific, limited permissions—permissions for us to pull public data like follower counts, post metrics, and audience demographics. These are the same permissions that many other legitimate tools and analytics platforms request, and crucially, none of those permissions include access to your DMs.
Next, you start populating your profile with your best work. This isn’t about us scraping your entire content history. It's about you curating a portfolio of your most impactful posts, campaigns, and collaborations. You choose what to highlight, adding context and results (like conversion rates or sales generated if you have them from the brand). This is where you tell your story, not through a passive data dump, but through an active, intentional presentation of your skills and success.
We also focus on making it easy for you to integrate specific campaign data. For instance, if you collaborated on a campaign that included a unique tracking link or a discount code, you can upload that data directly. This demonstrates tangible value to brands, showing them the direct impact you had on their bottom line. This information comes from you, from the brand, or from other tools you might use—never from your DMs.
The whole point is to give you a powerful digital resume that speaks volumes without compromising your privacy. Your public profile should be a testament to your professionalism, your engagement, and your ability to deliver results. It should be a place where brands can quickly and confidently assess your suitability for a partnership, and it should be a place where you feel completely secure about your data.
We believe that by focusing on public-facing data and empowering you to curate your own narrative, we're building a more ethical and sustainable foundation for influencer marketing. It reinforces that creators are independent professionals, in control of their own data and their own careers. Your digital privacy is a right, not a privilege, and we'll always build with that in mind.
So, when you open Amplifyr and start building your profile, you're building it with confidence, knowing that your private conversations stay private. Your public profile gets stronger, your collaborations get smarter, and your DMs remain exactly what they should be: yours.
